Keeling’s Flowers Building

This €20 million project for Keeling’s was completed in 12 months and was officially opened by Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Simon Coveney in July 2023.

The project involved the construction of a flower processing facility / refrigerated warehouse (8617 m2) with associated two-story offices (457m2) on a greenfield site in in FoodCentral, Ireland’s National Food Park beside Dublin Airport.

External works included construction of retaining walls, truck loading bays and attenuation tanks. A new access road and car park was also constructed. There was an existing watermain passing along the southern boundary of the site which required to be ‘bridged’ to allow for the construction of the access road.

The walls and roof consisted of insulated Kingspan panels fixed to purlins fixed to a portal frame steel structure. Internally within the warehouse were a series of refrigerated rooms formed by insulated panels. There was also an attached 2 storey office area to the southeast of the building which consisted of a steel structure, green roof and insulated panels/glazing to the façade.

Sustainability is “built into the design of the building”, with automated systems gathering plant cut-offs for composting as well as heat-capturing and rainwater-collection systems.

NRS successfully completed the project in partnership with our clients, their consultants, architects, design team, and the supply chain.

NRS were the main contractor for all civil works, building works and M&E fitout for the refrigerated warehouse.
